His father, Norman, was born in Dixie and attended Dixie P.S. Dave’s early years were spent on Runnymede Road, near The Junction in Toronto. In the late 1940s the family purchased property on the 6th Line, Malton where he attended Elmbank and then Malton public schools. The family moved into Applewood Acres in 1957 after their Malton property was expropriated for the airport expansion. Dave attended Applewood P.S. and then Gordon Graydon S.S. Dave and his bride Sophie purchased their first home in Applewood in 1977.
Dave has been involved in the media, first in radio at CHIC in Brampton and then later at CHIN in Toronto. After radio he joined Inland Publishing (The Mississauga News and Etobicoke Gazette) as a news reporter and then in 1980 he was elected to the councils of the City of Mississauga and Region of Peel. Before he was elected he was active with the Applewood Acres Homeowner’s Association and following his retirement from politics, he became its president. Dave has maintained an active role in motorsport since 1957. He once owned a race car driven by Toronto racer Andy Mackereth. He was the race organizer for the first ever race held at Mosport Park on June 3, 1961. Many years later, in 1989, he would organize the first race at Mosport’s new facility as general manager of Ascot North International Speedway.
