People have wondered why the water main couldn’t have taken a route along Cawthra Road north. The water main route actually had a great deal of open space south of the QEW with little or no disruption for the area residents.

A Cawthra Road route could have had a major traffic impact causing massive disruption to surrounding industry not to mention commuters. As it was, when the route passed through Applewood Acres, particularly on Breezy Brae, the project proved to be difficult for many of the homeowners and tempers among the residents, municipality and contractors were often heated.

To illustrate just how massive in size these water pipes are, Breezy Brae Drive resident Jean Grassie took these photographs. These pipes were on the lawn of the Broderick home at the south-west corner of Breezy Brae and Whitney Drive and were there for about a week before being laid in place. Below the pipes were being delivered by large trucks.
