When it was suggested that the CBA might be the ‘main-spring’ of the entire project and take on the task of having it built, Gordon Harris pointed out that the association merely sponsored the concept to this point and that no single group was big enough to build it.

“I am disappointed at the turn out tonight and this is the last meeting I’ll call. Unless we get some satisfaction tonight, as far as I am concerned, we’re through,” said Mr. Harris.

At this point it seemed as if the entire plan would be dropped. A delegate rose to the floor and suggested that Leslie Howard (Les) Pallett be named the chairman for the evening. Les Pallett immediately asked those in attendance to form a Toronto Township Recreation Association and that a Ways and Means Committee be appointed.

“Such a group would be needed to raise the estimated $180,000 for the recreational center. This is not a ‘boy’s job’ and that this project will require support from every district in the township,” he said.

The group then went about the task of striking the Ways and Means Committee, appointing the following as its members: Alix Walberg-Port Credit; Gordon Harris-Cooksville; John Bodley-Clarkson; Vern Barker-Erindale; Les Pallett-Dixie; Alf Weaver-Lorne Park; Alf McCallum-Burnhamthorpe; Bert Haney-Port Credit; Herb Hamilton-Streetsville; and Sid Smith-Lakeview; E.L. Innes of Cooksville was chosen as Secretary.

The balance of the evening was filled with discussion of various revenue ideas. Since the township had a population of 15,000 people it was suggested that a head-tax of $10 per person be levied by Township Council. Another idea was that the Township Council pledge $100,000 toward the project. It was noted that “we might as well go to the moon than be asking Council for that amount of money.” Gordon Harris pointed out that every effort should be made to avoid adding to the municipal taxes.
